Central Rain w/ Gumboot, Plastic Crowns & Kyle Brew

Sunday, March 5, 2017 @ 7:00PMSun, Mar 5, 2017 @ 7:00PM

The Workers Club, 51 Brunswick St, Fitzroy

With current single “Hurricane Stan” garnering plenty of notice and a brand new album in the can, we're hitting the stage at the Workers Club on March 5 for a Sunday evening to rock your socks off - check this line-up out for size!

Gumboot are the pre-eminent purveyors of post-surf idiosyncratic goth rock. Their unique drama of unsettling post-surf punk combines to create a bewildering and at times awkward listening experience that after an initial 'what the hell is that', becomes incomprehensibly likeable…

The Plastic Crowns were the surprise package of December’s Xmas EVEN show, opening the night to the delight of friends more used to seeing them in the crowd than on the stage. They may be named from an EVEN lyric but they are no tribute band - their original three-piece rock sound seriously impressed everyone lucky enough to catch them. Gigs are rare so don’t miss them!

Kyle Brew is a fresh new face in Melbourne’s music scene, come down early to catch his acoustic blues, country and folk inspired tunes.

Only $8 on the door!

The Melbourne Divide

The Melbourne Divide

Saturday, July 9, 2016 @ 2:00PMSat, Jul 9, 2016 @ 2:00PM

The Yarra Hotel, 295 Johnston St, Abbotsford

Popboomerang Records is very proud to present 'The Melbourne Divide', a label showcase for this year's Leaps and Bounds Music Festival, on Saturday July 9 at the Yarra Hotel Abbotsford.

The event, curated by Popboomerang's Scott Thurling, will feature nine of the label's musical acts over a huge day/night event. The big scoop for the event is the reformation of 90s guitar pop icons Oscarlima and Jericho.

The free and family friendly afternoon session will feature a HUGE outdoor merch desk and Tim Reid, The Wellingtons Duo and Adrian Whitehead Band gracing the stage.

The evening session ($10 entry) sees NSW pair Michael Carpenter and Bryan Estepa play their first Melbourne shows in many years launching their new records, plus Melbourne jangle specialists Central Rain plus Oscarlima and Jericho.

The theme for the show was inspired by the song of the same name by longtime label artist Danny McDonald. McDonald said the song, released by Popboomerang last year as part of its 100th release celebrations, was written about the City of Yarra area and in particular, the Yarra River. "Melbourne's north and south is divided by the river, which tends to create a sense of physical and cultural separation. It is equally divisive and unifying and it is fundamental to defining our sense of place, culture and identity."

Central Rain & Family Fold Double Launch

Central Rain & Family Fold Double Launch

Friday, October 16, 2015 @ 8:00PMFri, Oct 16, 2015 @ 8:00PM

The Yarra Hotel, 295 Johnston St, Abbotsford

Central Rain and Family Fold are both celebrating debut releases and have decided to join forces along with the Jangle Band (duo) for a very special double launch spectacular!

Central Rain is the antidote to autotune: no-frills, melody-drenched indie pop/rock that Blurs The Church, Neil Finn and The Go-Betweens. The first solo project for Melbourne’s Luke Thomas (The Pictures, Deserters), the six atmospheric and reflective songs on debut mini-album Flying Information are written from the heart, and recorded and performed with a refreshing honesty. On stage they take on a dynamic new sound in the hands of a five-piece band of friends and familiar faces, including The Ronson Hangup’s Mal Pinkerton on cello. With the recent release of their debut album Lustre Glo, Family Fold will be playing their new music live when they take to the road from September, playing shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra. The pop sensibilities of singer-songwriter Paul Andrews (ex-Lazy Susan) have continued to grow under the Family Fold moniker, which has seen the Lustre Glo album receive very positive reviews that reflect Andrews’ ability to create warm pop songs with wry observations about everyday life. The Jangle Band in duo mode will kick things off in style, and both the launch CDs will be available for purchase on the night. A night of great tunes, great company and all good things – not to be missed!
